Heat production

Throughout this lesson series, students will examine different ways that heat can be produced, including solar. Students will conduct experiments to examine how heat can be used to melt solid objects. Students will be introduced to the terms conductors and insulators and will explore different ways heat can be conducted or absorbed. Students will examine how colour affects the absorption of heat. Students will consider variables during experiments and explain fair testing and safety.

Lesson Objectives

Students will:

  • Investigate and list different ways that heat energy can be produced including solar.
  • Explore different ways of producing heat to melt ice and discuss which methods are more successful.
  • Discuss how to measure heat using a thermometer.
